The journey begins

Welcome to our new blog, Cape Town to Calgary!

We’re a South African family in the process of emigrating to Canada and we’re looking forward to sharing all the stages of our journey with you.

We feel that now is the time for a new adventure for our family, and now is the time to provide different and better opportunities for our children where they are exposed to new experiences, new people and a new way of life. Where they can travel and explore and be free.

There is no doubt about the fact that emigration is hard – we have no illusions about this – but we believe it will be worth it. The application process has been super stressful, but we know that this is still the easy part, we still have to get there and then find our feet, start a new life where we are essentially nobodies. We won’t know anyone or how things work, we will have so much to learn and figure out. We will need to be strong, not only for ourselves, but especially for our children. We’re going to have to dig deep, keep our heads up, and keep believing.

We by no means feel that we’re running away from anything, but rather that we are running towards a new and exciting adventure. As the ancient saying goes, “the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. We have now taken that first giant step of faith and we are so excited for the thousand miles of adventures that await us!
