Finally, the day we had been waiting for arrived this month – we received our “golden email” requesting our passports to finalise our permanent residence application.
After a long 16-month wait, the limbo is finally over and we can officially start planning our big move to Calgary.
I don’t think I’ll ever forget the moment the phone call came through with the good news. The moment the path of our lives changed forever. I was just all giggles and smiles and bursting with excitement. Then, after a few hours it all started to sink in and I felt quite shell shocked. This was it, we were officially being given the green light. The moment we had been dreaming about for months, and had started to think would never come, was finally upon us.
The last few days have been a whirlwind of emotions as we’ve gone from excitement at finally being able to move forward, to sadness at the prospect of leaving our family and friends, to fear of the great unknown and being completely overwhelmed about all we need to do in the next few weeks, back to excitement about all the changes and adventures awaiting us.
It was a surreal moment collecting our passports at VFS, and I felt like a kid at Christmas opening that package and seeing the visa and the confirmation of permanent residence documents. Seeing it all in writing like that finally made it real and I felt completely giddy.
This is it, our lives will never be the same again. We’re moving to Canada!
Yippee!
